Garden Restoration: Lost his shine...
A lovely big Cellar Beetle! (Blaps mucronata.) It looked very dry to me - like it had been stuck in man-made rubbish for a while - so I put it in a shaded area near a stump with damp soil so it could get back some of its shine. On Twitter, @bugmanjones noted that this beetle is 'a lovely clockwork critter that lives in houses in cellars and under floorboards. They are now much scarcer than they once were...
